Social Justice

As a Christian community, we are invited to engage in actions which bring about a better life for all people, " For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in." (Matthew 25:35)

At St Luke's, we encourage the children to engage in Social Justice actions. Our Year 6 Social Justice team lead the school in a variety of awareness and fundraising support organisations with a focus on justice and social inclusion such as Caritas Australia,  St Vincent De Paul Society Victoria, Breast Cancer Awareness, Royal Children's Hospital appeal.

As Pope Benedict XVI stated that, "for the Church, charity is not a kind of welfare activity which could equally be left to others, but is part of her nature, an indispensable expression of her very being." (Deus Caritas ESt 25, 2006)

Currently, students are also raising money for less fortunate students in India, to enable them to get to school and have the resources that they need.

Project Compassion

St Luke's students and staff support Project Compassion, by donating money to the cause and raising awareness of people overseas who are suffering.   Some of our students have been donating their icy pole money.  So instead of having an icy pole, they give their money to Project Compassion.

Mini Vinnies
St Luke's is proud of our involvement in the Mini Vinnies program. Mini Vinnies is a group of students who get together to help those in need within our school community. Our St Luke’s Mini Vinnies students meet regularly to learn about social justice issues, develop leadership skills and engage with the wider St Vincent de Paul Society community.

Our student Mini Vinnies have many ongoing projects.
  • Blanket making for those in need
  • The 'meal train' that provides home-cooked meals for those in need
  • Fundraising for various charities
  • St Luke's 'Kids' Op Shop
