Wellbeing

St Luke's Primary School Wantirna

For St Luke’s to be a happy and safe place for all students, we place great importance on Wellbeing. We believe this is a shared responsibility between parents and school staff to work together to guide and encourage students to develop skills in the area of health and wellbeing. Children who are happy, confident and able to establish meaningful relationships are better placed to achieve in all areas of their lives. We strive to provide a safe and supportive environment that contributes to positive learning outcomes and the wellbeing of our students, staff and the broader community.

Wellbeing incorporates all aspects of school community life from students’ physical, intellectual, moral, social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing and development to the safe and supportive environment in which they learn.

 

Essential to the goals of Student Wellbeing is to develop five main social and emotional competencies:

  • Self-Awareness

  • Self-Management

  • Social Awareness

  • Relationship Skills

  • Responsible Decision Making

Wellbeing Programs

Wellbeing incorporates all aspects of school community life from students’ physical, intellectual, moral, social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing and development to the safe and supportive. Our Wellbeing Leader, in conjunction with a Core Team, provides a whole school approach to Student Wellbeing with a focus on prevention and early intervention. We promote inclusion and model values which are consistent with the Gospel teachings of Jesus.

 

We have a comprehensive range of Student Wellbeing programs which we incorporate into the Curriculum including:

  • Student Representative Council (SRC)

  • Seasons

  • Better Buddies

  • Cybersafety

  • Drug Education

  • Body Safety - Keeping myself safe

The Resilience Project

This year St Luke’s is excited to bring The Resilience Project (TRP) into our school community!

 

The Resilient Project is committed to teaching positive mental health strategies to prevent mental ill-health and build young people's capacity to deal with adversity.

​

We will be implementing their evidence-based teaching and Learning Program throughout our classrooms, staffroom and school community.

​

Teachers and students will engage in weekly lessons and activities around the key principles of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness (GEM) and Emotional Literacy to build resilience.

Meditation

All students from Prep to Year 6 begin each morning with 5 minutes of reflection and contemplation before the school day begins. Children and young adults are born contemplative but in our busy world we are bombarded from an early age with noises, stimulus and a message to keep busy. The aim of this teaching program is to share with children the essence of Christian Meditation which is to find God in stillness, silence and simplicity.

Student Wellbeing Engagement &

Love for Learning

St Luke's sees wellbeing as fundamental to successful learning. For St Luke’s to be a happy and safe place for all students, we place great importance on Wellbeing. At the beginning of each school year our inquiry unit focuses on developing skills that transition students back into school, learn new classroom routines, develop new friendships and set them up for a positive year of learning.
